Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Ministry for our
Youngest Parishioners
What is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd?
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a religious education curriculum that helps children engage in prayer at a young age. It uses the Montessori learning method by allowing children to work with the material at their level and as they desire, guided by the adult catechist who gradually exposes them to the material in the classroom throughout the year. Much of the material focuses on Gospel stories and the liturgy and is taught in such a way as to lead the child to wonder and pray about the Gospel stories and participate in the liturgy.
CGS Information
This ministry at St. Bernard is offered for children ages 3 – 5. You do not have to be a St. Bernard Parishioner to enroll. Pre-K students at St. Bernard School attend this weekly as a part of their religion curriculum.
CGS will be taught on Tuesday evenings during the school year beginning on August 27, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. The cost is $25 per child. The entire schedule for the school year, along with registration, can be found below.
If you want to learn more about the program, volunteer in the atrium, or have any other questions, please contact CGS Coordinator Kaitlin Davis at kaitlin@stbernardch.com or call the office at 337-332-2159.
